Last week on  “A Look in to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s Heroes,” we covered the background of our latest heroine, Hawkgirl. This week, we’re looking into a man who, we dare say, has gained quite some experience over “time.” Yes, the pun was intended.

This week, the hero of time is a man named Richard “Rip” Hunter.

When he first debuted into the superhero universe, Richard Hunter was a mere man who had a fascination with the time space continuum. Acting upon his fascination, he created what is known as the Time-Sphere in order to travel through the fragments of time, always landing in a new “world” and seeing how time can amazingly be so fluid.

Throughout his adventures, he would be joined by his good friend, Jeff Smith, Hunter’s girlfriend, Bonnie Baxter, and Baxter’s younger brother, Corky.

However, after drastically altering the timeline that Hunter originated in, he returned home to only realize that nobody even knew who he was or that he even existed. Hunter was able to retain his previous memories and personality from his original life, fortunately.

This experience was the turning point in Hunter’s life that made him understand his new nature of being a time-traveling hero.

Hunter would then attract the attention of a team of superheroes that police the time paradoxes known as the Linear Men. The team actually operates out of a base that exists during the last few moments of the universe. Literally, it’s the very last nanosecond before all of life and existence as we know ends. They call this base the Vanishing Point. Kind of cool, right?

Things eventually would go south for Hunter, as he would leave the Linear Men and join forces with the Justice League with the likes of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

This might be going a littler further into the DC superhero universe, but Hunter would soon become the mentor and friend of one Michael Jon Carter, better known as Booster Gold.

Now, in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Rip Hunter will be the experienced time-traveler we all know and love and will have come to the present day in order to assemble the team of heroes and villains that we will witness in 2016. Hunter sees the destruction of the future caused by the immortal “savage” known as Vandal Savage. With this knowledge, Hunter takes a huge part in putting together this new team of superheroes in efforts to take down the powerful immortal and keep the flow of the future as safe as possible.

We got a small preview of Rip Hunter in The Flash when he was briefly mentioned in the season finale by Eobard Thawne, the Reverse Flash, during talks of time traveling.

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Rip Hunter will have a massive role in the Legends of Tomorrow series as the leader and confidant of our team of heroes. Just how Hunter will show himself as a hero and leader will be left for us to witness.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres in 2016 on SFL-TV, the CW!
