It takes two to tango, and Firestorm is no different.

Just as a quick reminder, Firestorm IS a combination of two men fused into one nuclear-powered body. Those two men are Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein.

We’ve seen him on The Flash, Arrow and now, we’ll see him as part of the heroic squad in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow!

Let’s do a background check, shall we?

Firestorm was originally created by comic book writer Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom and debuted in March of 1978. Its first run would be short-lived, as it would be cancelled after only publishing six issues. However, Firestorm would return to publication in 1982 with a new series entitled “The Fury of Firestorm.” This series would last until 1990, with another series starting up in the early-2000’s.

Firestorm is composed of two men: High school student Ronnie Raymond and the Nobel Prize-winning scientist/physicist Martin Stein. How did they fuse? Well, both men were caught in the middle of a nuclear explosion that actually fused them together. And with Stein being unconscious during the accident, Ronnie was in control of the Firestorm form with Stein being his conscience and his voice of reason. This gave Stein the ability to give Ronnie advice on how to use their powers without having to try and take over the Firestorm body.

Firestorm has exceptional power! He can rearrange the atomic and subatomic structure of inorganic matter, rearrange particles to create objects of different characteristics of equal mass, regenerate lost and damaged skin, boost his immune system and even survive without any foods or water! And of course, he can fly and create and shoot fire. (Well, technically, he can generate blasts of fusion energy from his hands.)

If you thought you had voices in your head, think again! Their banters with each other internally were some of comic book history’s greatest material. Stein was in complete denial about their dual identities. This would leave the two to have to deal with random disappearances and blackouts during their adventures. But after a long, internal talk,  Ronnie was able to convince Stein of their unfortunate reality of having to share a body, allowing them to be able to fuse together as separate entities instead of just parts of a whole.

After his graduation from high school, Ronnie began his college career in Pittsburgh where Stein had become hired as a professor. This would give them the opportunity to search for a cure for their bond/fusion.

In The Flash, Ronnie was a S.T.A.R. Labs employee who was caught in the Particle Accelerator’s explosion along with Professor Stein, causing them to fuse together into the entity known as Firestorm.

After months in seclusion from the rest of the world, Ronnie returns to aide Barry in helping to stop the Reverse Flash’s evil plans to kill the Flash. But unbeknownst to the rest of the team, Ronnie did fuse with Professor Stein and needed to be atomically split in half via nuclear explosion.

With their fusion device ready for whenever they need each other, Ronnie and Professor Stein became a huge part in finally putting away the Reverse Flash during his final bout with the Flash and the Arrow.

With both their lives back in order, Professor Stein was able to return home to his wife and Ronnie was able to marry Caitlyn Snow.

Now, with both men on the same page and with the same mentality to help save the world, there’s no limit to what they could use their powers for when it comes down to taking out Vandal Savage!
