OTTAWA, CANADA - If the candidates running for the presidential election have you thinking about becoming an expatriate, then 2017 might be "high" time to move on up. Online searches for "Move to Canada" spiked to their highest numbers ever after Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both won seven state primaries on Super Tuesday.
Seems like many Americans aren't happy with who we might be stuck with this November, and are contemplating a Canadian change of address. But before you cross into Canada, consider this; is the "grass" truly greener on the other side? It might be if the Canucks legalize cannabis, like they claim they will next year.
Canada's liberal government says they will legalize recreational marijuana by the spring of 2017. Of course the Canadian announced this pro-pot news on 4 - 20, a holiday for pothead everywhere. Those toque wearing tokers must have been stoked. Still, living in Canada might not be all that it's cracked up to be.
The immigration process up north could be very difficult and expensive. Also, expats living in Canada might still have to pay American taxes. Oh, and did we mention, it's freezing up there.
