HOUSTON, TX - The latest round of auto recalls is literally knocking the air out of motorists. Japanese air bag maker Takata, is recalling as many as 40 million inflators affecting vehicles made by 14 different automakers. This newest recall, along with another 28 million airbags that needed to be replaced in recent years, makes it the largest and most complex auto safety recall in U.S. history according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The faulty airbags have been known to explode, shooting shrapnel throughout the interior of the vehicle. 11 fatalities have been linked to the defect worldwide, including the March 31 death of 17-year-old Huma Hanif, from the Houston area.

So far, the NHTSA reports over 8 million airbags have already been replaced here in the United States. If you think your car has a defected Takata airbag, get it checked out before this problem potentially explodes in your face.
