VICTORVILLE, CA - A man accused of trying to kidnap a 4-year-old girl, which was caught on surveillance video, told a judge he didn't do it.

Surveillance video from a cellphone store northeast of Los Angeles shows the scary moments for a mother who had her other child on her hip. Her 4-year-old was waiting for her mother near the entrance of the store when a man's arm reaches in and snatches her.

The mom took off running after the guy and managed to grab her child back. Witnesses tackled the guy and held him down until the cops showed up. They said the would-be kidnapper was smiling as if the whole thing was a joke.

Police charged Terry Ransom , 24, with kidnapping and child cruelty. He told a judge that he had nothing to do with the kidnapping and was in the hospital at the time. Ransom has a long criminal history and family members say he was so high on drugs that he didn't know what he was doing.

It sounds like Ransom's high times are over and he is likely to be grounded for a long time coming.
