HOUSTON - “Pokémon Go” is more popular than Tinder?! And Instagram!? It’s even gaining on Twitter in daily active users. But what all those users don’t know – might scare them.

When they signed up for this latest phone game fad, they also gave the game designer, Niantic, access to a lot of the info stored in their phone and most, if not all, of the information tied to their Google account.

And it can share that info with certain third parties or use it for in-game advertising, if they ever decide to go that route.

And Niantic has heard the alarm bells going off. In a statement to tech blog Gizmodo, they stated, “Google will soon reduce Pokémon Go’s permission to only the basic profile data that Pokémon go needs, and users do not need to take any actions themselves.”

Until then, you can go in and change the permissions in your Google profile. Problem is, every time the “Pokémon Go” servers crap out, you’ll have to re-authorize full permissions and go back in and change it again.

But come on, like the ice bucket challenge - and planking… this will pass too right?!

Whatever, as long as it’s died down a bit before summer break is over.   Those poor teachers.
