Spinal Muscular Atrophy, or SMA, is the number one genetic cause of death of young children.
As of now, there is no cure for SMA, but there have been advancements in recent years towards finding one.
This inspired Fiorenna Fuentes and Jennifer Miller-Smith, mothers of children with SMA, to create The Gala of Hope, a South Florida fundraiser to raise money for the disease.
