2. White Oleander by Janet Fitch = Artistic single mother (Jane’s mother)

3. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides = Family, identity, hardship, triumph, immigration, love, desire (Everything that is Jane The Virgin)

4. Tess of the Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy = A story that rivals the best telenovela and filled with sensual romance (Jane loves 19th century literature and romance)

5. The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley = Two brave girls struggling to save their strange, beautiful world from evil forces. They are loyal and fierce (just like Jane)

6. Can’t And Won’t by Lydia Davis = This collection includes long and short stories (great inspiration for a young writer like Jane)
