WALLOPS FLIGHT FACILITY — Nearly two years after Orbital ATK’s launch of the Antares rocket quickly turned catastrophic, a second launch is set for Monday night.
The Antares was supposed to fly over the weekend from Wallops Flight Facility in eastern Virginia, but was postponed until Monday after a cable “did not perform as expected during the pre-launch check out.”
The new launch is scheduled for Monday, October 17 at 7:40 p.m. ET.
The Antares carries roughly 1,700 pounds of food and supples in the Cygnus cargo capsule, which is headed for NASA’s International Space Station.
Thanks to fair weather, the launch will be visible from Virginia and a lot of the Mid-Atlantic for those with a good view of the horizon that is not blocked by buildings or trees.
Viewing from an elevated position will work best.

This is the first launch of an Antares rocket since, October 28, 2014, when the rocket exploded on the launch pad. The rocket has since been redesigned.
